BEEVILLE – The Trojan freshman and junior varsity football teams hosted Ingleside last Thursday and split their two games with young Mustangs.

The freshman game went to the visitors, 40-8, with all the scoring done in the first half.

The quicker Mustangs rang up 20 points in the first quarter and another 20 points in the second period. The Trojans got their lone score midway through the second quarter on an aerial strike from quarterback Tanner Trevino to wide receiver Billy Cuellar. The PAT conversion for two points was good on a short run by Brandon Nelson. That made the score 26-8 before the Mustangs tacked on two more TD’s in the first half to lead going into the intermission, 40-8.

The two teams struggled in the second half offensively as both defenses stepped up their play. The scoreboard was quiet the rest of the way.

The Trojans got good runs from Nelson, Josh Munoz, Allen Rojas and Willie Barrera. Defensively the young Trojans were led by Joshua Salazar and Ryan Longoria.

In the JV contest, the Trojan running game led to Beeville’s first score as Tristan Pelitire and Conrad Ruiz combined for good yardage on the team’s first possession. Pelitire went the final seven yards for the TD and with the two-point conversion it became an 8-0 lead.

The Beeville defense, led by a good stop from Dylan Knapp, forced an Ingleside punt and took over the ball on the Mustang 35-yard line. It took one play to cover that yardage as QB Cameron Kremers completed a scoring strike to receiver Ruiz for the second touchdown. Pelitire again made good on the conversion run for the 16-0 lead.

The Trojan defense got good stops from Ryan Fuentes and Ruben De La Garza to force another Ingleside punt early in the second stanza. The Beeville boys used the rest of the clock until just seven seconds remained in the half. QB Kremers scrambled and zigzagged his way through the Mustangs for a seven-yard TD as time expired in the half. The two-point run by Pelitire made it a 24-0 game.

Ingleside got its only score on the first possession of the third period but that was all the visitors would get. The Trojans added one final TD in the fourth period as Fuentes ran it in from eight yards out with 4:13 left. Pelitire once more made good on the conversion to increase the final to 32-8.

The Trojans traveled to Corpus Christi on Thursday to tangle with the King Mustangs.
