Local men die in wrecks

LIVE OAK COUNTY – A Three Rivers man and a George West man were killed in vehicle accidents in the past week.

Howard Donovan, 35, of Three Rivers was killed in a head-on collision about three miles west of town on Oct. 19.

According to the Department of Public Safety report, Donovan was traveling west on State Highway 72 in his 1995 Ford truck when a another vehicle driven by Demitrio Rene Perez, 18, of Rockport, veered into Donovan’s lane.

The 2002 Dodge truck driven by Perez was traveling eastbound at the time it entered into the westbound lane and struck Donovan. Donovan was pronounced dead on the scene at 7:41 p.m. while Perez was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio with chest, leg and head trauma. An update on his condition is not known at this time. DPS Trooper Garcia of George West worked the accident.

Donovan was an employee of Bay Ltd. Company and was working at Valero Refinery.

Early Saturday, a one-vehicle motorcycle accident in Corpus Christi left one George West resident dead and one injured.

According to Department of Public Safety reports, Ryan Summerville, 27, of George West was traveling west on River Lane on his 2007 Suzuki motorcycle.

His passenger was Amber Oliver, 21, also of George West.

The bike came to a curve that Summerville was unable to negotiate and he hit a tree, according to a DPS report.

Both were taken to Corpus Christi hospitals. Summerville was pronounced dead at the hospital while Oliver is being treated for serious head, chest and spine injuries. Her current condition is not known at this time.

The wreck was worked by DPS Trooper Brandley of Corpus Christi.

According to the archives of The Progress, the couple were married on June 19, 2010, at Botanical Gardens in Corpus Christi.
