KARNES CITY – A Karnes City woman was killed and a San Antonio woman was injured in a three vehicle accident Wednesday, Nov. 23 at approximately 1:03 p.m.

The accident happened on US Highway 181 approximately one mile north of Farm to Market 1144.

According to information from DPS, San Antonio resident Tammy Biediger, 53, who was driving a gray 2007 Ford Escape, was in the southbound lane of US Highway 181 waiting to turn left into the parking lot of Britanco, LLC when she was hit from behind by a 2011 Dodge Ram one ton flatbed truck driven by Victoria resident Ricky R. Budd.

Police say the impact of the collision pushed Biediger’s vehicle into the northbound lane causing her to collide with a 2007 Chevy Cobalt driven by Marilyn Bednorz, 61, of Karnes City.

The Escape struck the front passenger side of the Cobalt ejecting Biediger through the passenger side of her vehicle and killing Bednorz.

Both women were wearing seatbelts.

Biediger was airlifted to University Hospital in serious condition. Biediger is employed by Britanco, LLC which is operated by Enterprise Products Operating, LP.

Bednorz, a longtime employee of the county clerk’s office, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Delia (Daisy) Villanueva.

Budd was not injured in the accident.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
