Thursday’s first game had the Lady Trojans up against San Antonio Holy Cross. The local ladies dominated after getting off to a slow start, according to coach Katina Walker.
“We started off slow but we were able to finish on top with a 43-19 victory,” Walker said.
The Lockhart Lady Lions were the next Beeville opponent. The close game was a battle but the Lady Trojans topped the Lions, 45-32, for a 2-0 start to the tournament.
The next contest had the A.C. Jones High varsity facing the 28-4A SA Brennan Lady Bears.
The Bears proved too be too strong and the Lady Trojans suffered their first defeat of the tourney.
The host Southside Lady Cardinals were next on the tourney schedule and the Beeville girls captured the win to go into the championship round on Saturday in the third place contest against 5A San Antonio Holmes.
The Lady Huskies and Lady Trojans played a tight, hard-fought game, but the taller Huskies prevailed down the stretch to collect the third place hardware while the JHS ladies had to settle for the fourth place trophy.
Beeville guard Victoria Elizalde was named to the all-tournament team for her fine play throughout the three-day affair.
The Lady Trojan record stands at 5-2 after the tournament.
