Mr. Chapa was born June 18, 1928, in Choate. He was a heavy equipment operator, serving 40 years in the oil field industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herminio and Enemencia Chapa; his wife of 52 years, Lucia Chapa; and one daughter, Gloria Chapa.
Survivors include four sons, Serbando (Teresa) Chapa Jr. of Pettus, Rick (Brenda) Chapa Sr. of Corpus Christi, Ray (Aida) Chapa of Dilley and Joe (JoAnn) Chapa of Odem; three daughters, Mary Jane (Lorenzo) Torres, Lorraine Chapa and Tammy Chapa, all of Victoria; a son-in-law, Eustacio Chapa of Victoria; a brother, Amador Chapa of Beeville; a sister, Emma Caballero of Pettus; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Treviño Funeral Home chapel. A rosary was recited there that evening at 7 o’clock.
The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pettus with Rev. Luke officiating. Burial followed at the Pettus Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jason Chapa, Rick Chapa Jr., Justin Chapa, Jeremy Chapa, Lorenzo Torres and Eustacio Chapa.
