The game was all defense in the early going, as neither team could score with any regularity. The Lady Badgers held a 7-3 advantage at the end of the first eight minutes.
The Lady Eagles snapped out of their cold-shooting doldrums in the second period and cut one point off the Ben Bolt lead by taking the period 10-9. It was a 16-13 contest at the half.
The third period also had the Lady Eagles hitting for another 10 points. The Pettus defense allowed just eight Ben Bolt points to close to within one point, 34-33.
Down the stretch, the Lady Eagles seemed to make every play they needed, grab every loose ball and hit the shots when available. The Pettus girls outscored the Lady Badgers 13-7 over the final stanza and captured a come-from-behind victory.
“The girls did another great job of keeping focus, never losing hope, and giving their all to the very end of game. I am so proud of my ladies and couldn’t imagine coaching a greater group of girls,” said Pettus head coach Darcy Siddon.
Victoria Arrisola led the Pettus girls in scoring with 14 points. Arrisola also pulled down 10 rebounds for a nice “double-double” for the night. Destiny Carrillo finished with six points. Madi Garza, Ryan Grayson and Ashley Duran each had four points. Hailee Schauer and Savannah DelBosque each contributed two. Chloe Garza did not score but hauled in two rebounds, had four blocks and six steals along with three assists. Madi Garza contributed six rebounds, six blocks and four steals.
