“Today,” said Pastor Jim Pogue, “we are going to finish up the Book of Revelation knowing there is a beginning and an end and at some point the world will end.” Reviewing chapters from past weeks we saw that we are never to loose our first love, to do things right and shun evil, to preach the Word in and out of season, that God is incredible in His majesty, that the Seals are coming with bad things happening and we need to be ready! The Book of Revelation was written for our churches today in order to understand what will happen!

Our study of Revelation took us to chapter 10 and we will not do the rest chapter-by-chapter and verse-by-verse but will be going to the end. The tribulation will last 7 years with 1/3 of grass, trees and men dying but in spite God trying to do all He can to wake people up, they still snub Him and refuse to change their ways. The last 3 and one half years will be hell on earth with meteors falling, mountains splitting apart and earthquakes happening. The antichrist comes bringing peace and people will worship him instead of God with brings judgment on the earth just as it happened when Moses had to confront Pharaoh in Egypt. There will be the rise of the Beast with 10 horns and things will get really bad and all evil is let out with a tremendous war upon the earth at Megiddo with 200 million fighting. When does all this occur? We don’t know the hour or day but can know the season and with more earthquakes happening than ever before we could be in that season. One thing is for sure and that is we will all have to take the final exam.

Revelation 20 points us to being ready to take the final! We must stay prayed up, looking up and being ready for we cannot wing it! Verses 7-10 says this: “When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Verse 10 points out to the lake of fire with verse 11 showing God seated here on His throne, the one in whom we worship. Verse 12 shows judgment coming to each one of us and verse 14 the lake of fire which equals the second death. In order not to go here we need to be saved! Jesus came to save all of us. Matthew 22:37 shows we need to love God with all our hearts, all our souls and all our minds and our neighbor as ourselves. This is what happens at the judgment seat. You may say you love God but then you hate your neighbor but in order to go to heaven you must love both God and your neighbor and be ready to pass the final! John 10:10 tell us through Jesus that the thief (Satan) comes to steal, kill and destroy but Jesus says He has come that you might have life and have it more abundantly than ever before!

When we pass the final exam what happens? Revelation 21:1-7 shows what happens: “Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true. He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.” This is a beautiful and incredible sight to see what we get when we are in a right relationship with Christ and when you pass your final you get this! John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life.” God has a great plan for you and wants you to know how much He loves you and how much He wants you to go to heaven!

What happens to those who don’t pass the final exam? Revelation 21:8 shows: “But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.” This is a terrible place to be and who wants to go here?

Revelation 22:12-14 says this: “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” We know that washing your robes in blood is a figure of speech. The plain truth is Jesus paid for our sins in full when He shed His blood on Calvary’s cross to pay for our sins. When you accept what Jesus did in payment for your sins and repent from them completely you are saved. Then you must live the life He gives you to follow by loving Him with all your heart, soul and spirit and your neighbor as yourself. Verses 15 shows those who failed to pass the test with these words: “Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.” It is not God’s plan for us to go to hell for Jesus prayed in John 17:25 these words: “Righteous Father, though the world does not know You, I know You, and they know that You have sent Me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for Me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.” We see in this verse Jesus loves us so much He wants the love of His Father to be in us as it is in Him and that He may be in us the same as with the Father! What great love this is!

Matthew 7:21-23 says this: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!” There may be many who have prayed the prayer of salvation but don’t live it! Jesus clearly says not everyone who says Lord, Lord will enter heaven! Why? Because they don’t live it. They may say they love God but then hate their neighbor. As true Christians we must spend time with Jesus each day in order to know Him and love your neighbor as you love yourself! When you have studied for a test you know it! You must spend time with Jesus and as you do He will point you to others!

Matthew 25:1-13 says: “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.” At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’

In closing we must be wise as the 5 wise virgins were wise. We must love God and our neighbor as ourselves and our neighbor starts with our spouse, children and those around us that we rub elbows with daily. God calls us all and when the final comes we need to be ready! It all starts with a prayer of repentance for our sins and a prayer for salvation asking the Lord to come into our hearts. Ask yourself today; are you ready for the final exam? Will you pass the test? Do you love your neighbor as yourself?
