Mrs. Garcia was born in Cotulla to Guadalupe and Zaragosa Cortez. She was a member of Primera Iglesia Bautista.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Anita Garcia; and two sisters, Guadalupe Villarreal and Delores Gaitian.
Survivors include her husband, Marcelino Garcia of Mathis; nine sons, Jose (Gracie) Villarreal, Marcelo (Sylvia) Garcia, Robert Garcia, Guadalupe (Ostolia) Garcia, George Garcia, Adan Garcia, Luis Garcia, Esequiel (Jackie) Garcia of Mathis and David (Sandra) Garcia of Corpus Christi; three daughters, Esther (Fred) Farias, Dalia (Mark) Villarreal of Mathis and Janie (Thomas) Cahill of San Antonio; two brothers, Enrique (Emma) Cortez and Pedro (Mary) Cortez of Dublin; 33 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Mathis. A prayer service was held there at 7 p.m. that evening.
The celebration of life was held Friday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Gregorio Gomez officiating. Interment followed at Descanso Eterno #2 Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stephen Villarreal, Guadalupe Garcia Jr., Adrian Garcia, Timothy Farias, John Garcia and James Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers were Fredrick Farias, Kilo Garcia, Joshua Marcel Garcia and Andrew “Bud” Cahill.
