The commissioners court voted unanimously on Monday, Jan. 23, to extend the burn ban for the unincorporated areas of Bee County.

While the ban did not expire until Feb. 12, the court placed it on the agenda for this meeting, because there is not another scheduled meeting prior the ban expiring. The ban was extended 90 days from the expiration date and will now expire May 12.

The burn ban is not a total burn ban but rather a modified burn ban that was approved during a November 2011 Commissioners Court meeting. Under the modified ban, trash can be burned in screen covered containers with an opening of a 1/2 inch or less.

In other items, the court approved a number of resignations, promotions and new hires at the Bee Community Action Agency Head Start program.

In all, one teacher and one teacher’s aide resigned, three people were given promotions to full-time teachers, and one new teacher and two new aides were hired.

There was also a resignation of a jailer with a replacement hired, as well as resignations and hires in other departments.

The next commissioners meeting is set for Feb. 13.
