Last Friday night the Runge Yellow Jackets were visited by the Prairie Lea Indians and the host Yellow Jackets sent the Indians home to deal with a 44-23 defeat.

Runge jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the first quarter behind Richard Ramirez’s 6 points in the quarter.

The defensive pressure was applied in the second quarter and the stingy Yellow Jackets led at the half 22-5.

The third quarter brought much of the same and ended with the hometown squad up 34-10.

The fourth quarter was played mostly by the Runge reserves who saw plenty of action and made some great plays. Richard Ramirez led all scorers with 17 points and he also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Center Corey Douglas struggled from the field and was held to 4 points but he did manage to accumulate 11 rebounds for the Yellow Jackets . Rounding out the scoring was A.J. Mejia with 7 points to go with his 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Travis Perez scored 5 points but dished out 6 assists and 5 steals.

The win set up the Yellow Jackets versus the Waelder Wildcats on Tuesday night with the playoffs on the line for the Yellow Jackets.

The Runge Yellow Jackets hit the floor running Tuesday February 7th and raced to a lopsided 64-22 victory over the visiting Nordheim Pirates.

The Yellow Jackets shot well offensively but the game was won on the defensive end.

The onslaught continued in the second half as the home town Yellow Jackets outscored the Pirates by a combined 36-14 in the third and fourth quarters to bring the final score to 64-22.

A.J. Mejia led the Yellowjackets in scoring with a season high 20 points.
