When I was a boy, I read Bible prophecies about future events and wondered how they could ever be implemented. In those days there were no personal computers, lasers, electronic calculators, surveillance cameras on every building and street corner, transistors, or miniaturized integrated circuitry. In this technological setting (which was then considered modern) astounding Biblical predictions of the future had already existed for thousands of years. One such prediction was (and is) as follows: “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” (Revelation 13:16-17) These words were written concerning a yet future world ruler known as “the beast” or “the anti-Christ.”
As I pondered this prophesy in the light of my modern environment, I saw no way for even a powerful world ruler to implement such a strategy. How would he keep track of who did or did not have the mark? How would he prevent black market enterprises from simply bypassing the law that required such a mark to buy and sell? Such a strategy would require an extensive network of detailed surveillance and population control far beyond the reach of the modern technology then existing or foreseeable. There was no apparent way of pulling off such an ambitious scheme.
Today I, again, sit and ponder the advancing electronic, surveillance-ridden, cashless society, coupled with miniaturized RFID devices being implanted in animals and people. The Bible’s prophecy, which once seemed impossible, is now easy to believe.
Satan has continuously whispered doubt into man’s ear concerning the truth of God’s prophe cies. He seeks to distract us from remembering how often his whispered doubts have been proven false. The day is fast approaching when those who continue to reject Christ as the Savior of sinners will be prevailed upon to take the mark of the beast to their own eternal horror.
“And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.” (Revelation 19:20)
Dear reader: please listen! The day of salvation will end. Do I know the day or hour? No! But you and I can both see things shaping up. We are all sinners. Christ came to sacrifice Himself as the pure Lamb of God to pay the penalty for our sins. No work we do can add to His. Call out to the Lord God Jesus Christ for mercy now! It may be your last chance!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:16-19)
