Texas Independence Day (March 2) has been observed, and next up on the calendar is Texas Public Schools Week (beginning March 5).
Fifty years ago, school officials were announcing the event’s program, which included flag-raising ceremonies, band performances, Teacher Recognition Night and baseball and basketball games.
Not much has changed in all these years, as parents still are being encouraged to have lunch with their children or attend special activities being staged at each of the Beeville ISD campuses, as well as other public schools across the county.
One observance that has grown in numbers and significance is the BISD’s Education Celebration, which will be held Monday evening starting at 6:30 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Schools and nonprofit groups from around Beeville share information and activities with participants who attend this free event, according to BISD leaders. Three stages will be set up for the entertainment, which will be provided by a variety of school organizations, including the A.C. Jones Symphonic Band.
So, if parents, grandparents or guardians have children attending any of these schools, please make the effort to attend these special events and discover what your children are doing and learning. Help celebrate Public Schools Week.
