The Eagles picked up an early win over Three Rivers, 15-2, but lost to the Poth boys in round two, 11-5. The Eagles got another crack at Three Rivers, substituting for a Jourdanton team that did not make the return trip on Saturday. The Eagles turned in another good performance in blasting the Bulldogs, 22-9, with a big 10-run first inning setting the stage for the win.
The third place game on Saturday pitted the Eagles against the Runge Yellowjackets. The ’Jackets got the better of it in a close pitchers’ duel with a 2-1 victory.
The Beeville Trojan junior varsity team also played in the tournament and picked up one win in three games against varsity competition. The win was over Jourdanton. The Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats also played in the Pettus tourney, losing to Poth and then defeating the Trojan JV in the consolation championship.
Named to the all-tourney team for their performances throughout the weekend were Eagles Ryan Beck and Coby Gonzales. The Bobcats placed Sonny Hernandez and Brandon Smith on the all-tourney squad.
The JV Trojans were represented by Elijah Fuentes and Anthony Ruiz on the tournament’s all-star team.
