As a precaution, the Texas Department of Transportation has closed the bridge and all of FM 2724 from FM 81 in Panna Maria to FM 627 for a minimum of 48 hours until officials can investigate the safety of the bridge and determine a repair solution.
The road and bridge frequently carry oilfield truck traffic, school buses, and local passenger vehicles.
Barricades have been set up on FM 2724 at both ends of the closure. Drivers will need to use county roads and other farm-to-market roads to detour around the closure.
