Emergency workers were called to the scene of crash that killed two people at 2:11 p.m., Wednesday, April 25.
According to information from the sheriff's office, two people who were in the white car died at the scene of the crash and two others were airlifted by helicopter after sustaining serious injuries.
The accident happened near the intersection of Highway 239 and County Road 128 just west of Choate.
A white sedan and a large flatbed truck collided at the location. The truck flipped on its side partially blocking traffic on the highway. Karnes County Sheriff's Office personnel responded as well as DPS, Karnes County EMS and Rescue 1 who worked to extricate injured passengers from the car.

The accident happened in a highway construction zone near the intersection of Highway 239 and County Road 128 just west of Choate.

A TxDOT spokesman told the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that the wreck occured after a sedan entered the work area and the driver slammed on their brakes.

An 18-wheeler traveling behind the sedan was unable to stop in time and struck the vehicle from behind, said Tom Tagliabue, TxDOT spokesman.

The truck flipped on its side partially blocking traffic on the highway.
