The Phase 1 Karnes County Courthouse restoration project is proceeding well, according to information from members of the Karnes County Historical Commission.

The project, which includes restoration of the west wall of the Karnes County Courthouse, began in November of 2011 immediately after voters approved the $4 million courthouse restoration bond to be used for Phase 2.

The Phase 1 project is being funded by the $617,000 emergency grant Karnes County received in January of 2010 in the round 6 of the Texas Historical Commission grant program along with $309,000 in matching funds from the county.

The Phase 1 project is expected to be complete in September.

Karnes County plans to apply again for grPhase 2 grant funding in the 2013 round 8 THC grant funding cycle.
