Another school year is winding down.

In fact, it’s over for many students in the Beeville Independent School District, thanks to a new policy which allows high-achieving students to end their school year 13 days early – or last Friday.

Inside today’s edition is our special section congratulating the seniors of 2012 and all the graduates, from kindergarten to eighth-graders.

We recognize and join in voicing best wishes to our county’s top graduates and all the grads walking the stage to receive their diplomas in the coming weeks, as well as those who already earned their degrees at Coastal Bend College’s commencement exercises.

These are exciting times and full of possibilities for our promising young men and women.

Our only advice for them as they start the rest of their life’s journey is to find a career they wish to pursue with passion and dedication.

It’s still a tremendously difficult national economy in which to find jobs. Ask any of those who have graduated in the last five years or so.

Also, on the bright side, if you decide to return to Bee County and the surrounding area, we are experiencing somewhat of a boom thanks to the Eagle Ford Shale play.

Unemployment is down, new businesses are opening, established businesses are benefiting, job fairs are being held on a regular basis and expectations are positive for the next decade and longer.

Again, we offer our congratulations, and encourage our seniors to make wise decisions – starting on their graduation night. Be careful, drive safely and don’t do drugs or alcohol.
