Leading the way for the Beeville girls was first team All-Region midfielder Heather McKinney. McKinney has speed, experience and the skills to lead the Lady Trojans. Head coach Jessica Pittman could ask McKinney to play anywhere on the field, and McKinney was able and willing to do so, anything to help the team. McKinney took most of the corner kicks and free kicks for the team. Her strong and accurate kicks led to many Beeville goals over the season.
Lady Trojan Victoria Elizalde was selected to the second team All-Region for her play this year. A forward for the A.C. Jones ladies, she was right in the middle of most scoring plays. Elizalde scored several goals on her own and picked up several assists along the way, setting up her teammates.
The third member to gain All-Region status was goalkeeper Randi Maupin. She was named to the second team as well. Maupin closed out several matches this season with no goals against. Two shutouts were recorded in the postseason. Maupin also kept the Region IV semifinals loss to Cedar Park under control with more than 10 saves in the contest.
All three Lady Trojans honored were also juniors this year and will be back for another year under coach Pittman. Next year’s team will be senior-laden, experienced and talented. The Lady Trojans will be looking to return to the Region IV playoffs and for a possible trip to state.
“I want to congratulate them on their accomplishments. This is a huge honor,” Pittman said.
