Boys and Girls are being encouraged to enter the Tiny Tots Pageant sponsored by the Refugio County Community Cemetery Assoc. of Refugio.
The pageant will be conducted Friday, June 15 at 7 p.m. in the Expo Center at the fairgrounds.
“The pageant is not restricted to any particular race,” said Patty Lewis, event organizer. “We’re very excited about this new event. We believe it will be fun for everyone.”
The children will be judged on appearance, beauty, personality, individuality, confidence and projection on stage.
“No experience is necessary, only smiles and enthusiasm,” Lewis said. “We do not have a long list of strict rules and regulations. We want the kids to be kids. We know they are still young so we encourage them to just be themselves.”
Out-of-town entries will also be accepted.
The entry fee is $30. The participants will be judged in dress-up wear, swimwear, talent, interview and most photogenic.
Each contestant will submit a photo up to size 5x7 which will be judged for the photogenic competition. The photo must be sent along with the entry form and fee.
Children will compete with their own age group and each age group will have a winner. Winners will receive a trophy, crown and sash.
Each contestant will receive a participants’ trophy.
Out-of-town participants may contact Patty Lewis at 361-646-9245 or Wanda Dukes at 646-3400 for more information or to obtain an entry form through the mail or by fax.
Forms may be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce, Celestine’’s Barber Shop or Deborah’s Beauty Shop. A list of rules will accompany the entry form.
The deadline for entering the pageant has been extended to June 8.
The celebration will continue on Saturday, June 16, with Gospel singing, praise dancing, kiddie BINGO, a watermelon eating contest and silent auction.
Another new event will be storytelling. Willie Brown, Majorie Shaw and Calvin Robinson will be on hand to talk about previous celebrations and old-times in the county.
A free barbecue with all the trimmings is also one of the landmarks of the family oriented celebration.
