Beeville — On Sunday, June 10, Faith Lutheran Church will kick off its Summer Gospel Concert Series. This will be the third consecutive summer that Faith Lutheran has brought some of the area’s finest gospel groups and performers to the community through this free summer concert series.

Once again, the summer concerts will be held on the second Sunday of the month from June through September on the outside stage on the east side of the church.

Concert coordinator Jim Stevenson said, “We want to invite everyone in the community to come out to hear some of the most talented musicians from this area.”

This is truly a multi-denominational event, as usually more than half of the attendees come from other churches in the area, and in the past two years, the concert series has featured Lutheran, Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic, Methodist and non-denominational performers.

The 2012 Summer Concert Series will kick off with the first concert Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Tucker Rackley will take the stage with special guests Mark Garcia and Gilbert Moreno. Most people in the community know Tucker as the recently retired superintendent of Pettus ISD, but many people are also aware that Tucker is a gifted musician and talented vocalist. This will be the first time that Tucker has participated in the concert series.

Faith Lutheran is also pleased to present some talented musicians from the San Marcos area.

“This is new for us,” Stevenson said. “We usually feature only musicians from the local area, but this year are very pleased to present Forgiven.” Forgiven is comprised of musicians from the San Marcos area who met through playing for Bay Area Fellowship in San Marcos. However, the group has a strong connection to Beeville and the Faith Lutheran gospel concert series.

Forgiven is brought to Beeville by Danny Santis, who is a former member of the Faith Lutheran Praise Band. For the past two summers, Danny has served as stage manager and sound engineer for the summer concert series, in addition to performing with Faith Lutheran’s praise band Cross Ways.

“We are very pleased to have Danny taking part once again. He has been an invaluable asset to the summer concert series and having him bring his group to perform is a thrill for us.” Stevenson said.

Forgiven will bring their contemporary Christian music to the Faith Lutheran stage on July 8 at 7:30 in the evening.

Cross Ways, Faith Lutheran’s own praise band, will perform the third concert in the series on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 in the evening. Cross Ways provides the worship music at Faith Lutheran Church on the second Sunday of each month. The band is comprised of Stevenson, his wife, Beverly, daughter Stacy, Cindy Hilliard, and Leslie Ahrens.

“I am so lucky to be performing with these women,” Stevenson said. “Their harmonies just blow me away. We plan to perform several original tunes that I have written as well as some traditional favorites.”

Gospel Truth will close out the summer gospel concert series for the third year in a row on Sept. 9 at 7 o’clock in the evening. This group has a huge following in the area and many fans. Gospel Truth has outstanding harmonies and excellent musicians, and their country gospel flavor is always a crowd pleaser.

“This toe-tapping concert is a great way to close out our Summer Gospel series,” Stevenson said.
