Editor’s note: Because of space limitations in the past two issues, the remaining indictments handed down in January are being reported in this edition of the Bee-Picayune.

Imagine telling your fellow inmates — many of them murderers and big-time drug dealers — that you’ve been sentenced to prison for theft.

But instead of stealing money from a bank or diamonds from a jewelry stole, they find out you stole a dumpster.

That’s one possible future to which a Bee County man can look forward.

A Bee County grand jury indicted Christopher Adams last month on a charge of theft, $1,500-$20,000.

Adams allegedly took a dumpster from a local man last year without permission.

If convicted, Adams could spend up to two years in prison.

His bond was set at $5,000.

Bee County grand jurors returned indictments against several defendants charged with state jail felonies when they met on Jan. 22.

If convicted in district court, people charged with state jail felonies could face anywhere from six months to two years in a state jail facility and a fine of as much as $10,000.

District Judge Joel Johnson set bonds on the defendants who were indicted. A grand jury indictment does not mean the defendant is guilty. It means a majority of the people on the grand jury believed prosecutors have enough evidence against the defendant to bring the case to trial.

Those named in the indictments included:

•Wilfred Curtis Cantwell on a charge of burglary of a habitation. According to Bee County Sheriff’s Office investigators, Cantwell entered the home of local man with the intent to commit theft on Oct. 20, 2008.

Bond was $5,000.

•Cantwell also was named in a separate indictment on two counts of forgery.

Beeville Police Department investigators claimed that Cantwell cashed three checks from the International Bank of Commerce account of a local couple on Oct. 20, 2008.

Bond on that indictment was $2,000.

•Blake Harrison Parsons on a charge of evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

BPD investigators alleged that the defendant used a vehicle to escape the custody of Sgt. Roland Rodriguez as the officer was trying to arrest him on April 22, 2008.

Bond was $1,000.

•Jose Lucio Perez on a charge of theft, $1,500-$20,000.

Police claim the defendant took money by deception from a local man between July 10, 2007, and May 6, 2008.

Bond was $2,500.

•Carrie Ann Taylor on a charge of debit card abuse.

Police officers alleged that the defendant used a local woman’s debit card without her permission on May 19, 2008.

Bond was $2,500.

•Bobby DeLeon on a charge of theft, $1,500-$20,000.

DeLeon was accused of having taken uniforms from a local man on June 27, 2008.

Bond was $5,000.

•Paulino Juarez on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a passenger under the age of 15 in the vehicle.

State authorities claimed that Juarez committed the offense on July 26, 2008.

Bond was $5,000.
