Crash on SH 239 results in death of Victoria man

KENEDY – An oilfield worker died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash near the intersection of State Highway 239 and State Highway 72 just east of Kenedy.

John Louis Schaar II, 35, an oilfield tech from Victoria, was the passenger in a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup which was driven by Bacilio Balderas, also of Victoria.

On Tuesday, June 5, at about 5:09 p.m., the pickup was traveling southbound on State Highway 239 when the truck driven by Balderas veered into the northbound lane for unexplained reasons, according to information from DPS.

The truck crashed with a 2007 International 18-wheeler drivien by Francisco Garza, of Yoakum.

Schaar was airlifted by helicopter from the scene to San Antonio Medical Center where he later died at 8:44 p.m.

DPS Trooper Roman Macias investigated the accident which remains under investigation.
