Pettus is now 14-13 overall and 2-3 in district. Friday’s home game with the Yorktown Wildcats has big playoff implications because both teams have 2-3 district records entering the contest. Yorktown won the first meeting between the two teams.
The Friday meeting will be the last home game of the season for both the Lady Eagles and Eagles and will also be Parents Night.
““I’ve been happy with our effort every game of district so far. We’ve been playing with great intensity, defending hard, and rebounding well,” said Pettus head coach Steve Marbach.
“Last night, we shot the ball well enough to win. It was a good one for us, and hopefully we can pull out another victory on Friday against Yorktown.”
The Pettus boys got off to a good start and hit for 19 first quarter points while holding the home team to 13 markers. The lead became a seven-point margin, 32-25, at the half.
The second half had the WHS Eagles fighting back. It was just a one-point affair, 43-42, with Pettus out front, going into the final eight minutes. The Bee County boys outscored Woodsboro 14-11 down the stretch to earn the 57-53 win.
Hunter Tomlin led the way with 18 points. McKinzie Torres and Ryan Beck followed with 10 each. Michael Perkins and Andrew P. had five points apiece. Reyes Cruces contributed four and Aaron Escamilla made three.
Yorktown was in Pettus last night for their showdown.
“They’ve the biggest team in the district and they shot very well against us last time we played them. Hopefully, we can play the way we’ve been playing and have another good scoring night,” Marbach said.
Two road games are up next week for the Eagles. Tuesday night will have the Pettus team in Falls City and next Friday’s game will be played in Port Aransas, the regular season finale for the boys.
