KARNES COUNTY – In an effort to increase safety in Karnes County, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the county and the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) have partnered to improve the truck weigh station at the intersection of County Road 347 and US 181.

With the increased truck traffic related to energy exploration activities, TxDOT supported the county’s efforts to update and improve the weigh station located in the Eagle Ford Shale area.

“While we’re excited about the economic opportunity that increased energy exploration efforts have brought to the area, we remain committed to providing safe and reliable roads to everyone in the region,” said Lonnie Gregorcyk, P.E., Corpus Christi District Engineer (interim). “Having some surplus materials to share with the county, we were glad to be able to provide needed support at this time.”

The improved weigh station has updated technology including new scales, provided by the county, which provides more effective and efficient ways for DPS troopers to weigh trucks, conduct inspections and help keep drivers on their way.
