A two-vehicle head-on collision Wednesday afternoon involving a pickup and 18-wheeler on State Highway 183 approximately five miles north of Goliad resulted in the driver of the pickup being transported to Victoria's DeTar Hospital with serious injuries.
Benny Meyers, 30, of Driscoll remained in intensive care unit at DeTar.
The 18-wheeler was driven by Juan Obregon, 29, of Weslaco was treated at DeTar Hospital and released Wednesday.
"From the way it looks right now, the vehicle at fault was Benny Meyers," said Texas DPS Trooper Roman Macias. "For some unknown reason, he veered into the oncoming lane."
There were a pair of one-vehicle accidents Wednesday morning that were both attributed to the wet road conditions.
A Ford Expedition operated by Carlos Quintana, 17, of Goliad hydroplaned off U.S. Highway 59 between Goliad and Fannin and landed upside down in a water-filled ditch. There were four passengers in vehicle. All sustained minor injuries and were treated by EMT personnel before being released.
Moments after the Ford Expedition rollover, another vehicle hydroplaned off the road on U.S. Highway 59 near the Farm-to-Market Road 2987 exit and struck a guardrail.
The vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, was driven by Steve Moore, 32, of Creole, La. Moore sustained no injuries, according to Macias.
