Friday night’s contest had the Beeville girls taking on Shiner, and the local young ladies took control early. It was 3-0 early, and then Beeville jumped to a 9-2 lead by the third inning. The big offensive blow was a base clearing triple off the bat of Kailey Perez.
The final in the game had the Beeville girls dominating a good Shiner team 12-2 to advance in the winner’s bracket.
Saturday’s game was not much different. The Beeville girls took the field against Industrial, winners over El Campo on Friday night.
Saleen Flores started in the circle for the Beeville girls and gave up a leadoff double but refused to let that bother her. Flores retired the next three batters in order to keep Industrial off the scoreboard.
The Beeville girls struck for two runs in the home half of the first. Kayla Johns led off with a sharp single to left. Brianna Moreno moved her over with a good bunt and on an Industrial throwing error, Johns scored all the way from first, and Moreno ended up at third. One wild pitch later, Moreno crossed the plate for the second Beeville run of the inning.
Flores put the Industrial girls down in order in the second to quickly bring the Beeville bats back in action. Raeann Flores walked to open the inning, but was out at second on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Raelynn Arrisola. Two consecutive walks loaded the bases. Arrisola scored on a wild pitch, as did Johns. The walk to Moreno loaded the bases, before the wild pitches brought in the two lead Beeville runners. Madelyn Rodriguez also drew a walk. Felixia Hinojosa singled to left for another run and Rodriguez later scored to make it a 6-0 Beeville lead after two innings.
A leadoff walk, a double and a throwing error allowed Industrial to put two runs up on the scoreboard in the top of the third to close the gap and bring the score to 6-2.
Beeville exploded for seven runs in the home half of the third. Aaliyah Ruiz, Arrisola, Johns, Moreno, Rodriguez, Perez and Saleen Flores scored for the all-stars. Rodriguez, Flores and Ruiz (double) all had hits in the frame.
That barrage had the Beeville girls on top 13-2 heading into the top of the fourth. Industrial needed to score twice in the frame to avoid a 10-run rule loss.
Perez came on in relief of Flores in the circle. Her pitch speed and location overwhelmed the Industrial batters as Perez recorded three straight strikeouts to end the game.
The Beeville girls played in the championship round on Monday at 7 p.m. against the winner of the Shiner vs. Industrial loser’s bracket game from Sunday evening.
