KARNES CITY– Three men were arrested on drug charges at a residence located less than one block from Roger E. Sides Elementary School in Karnes City on Friday, July 20, following an undercover investigation by police.

Karnes City Police Chief Eddie Salas said the investigation in conjunction with the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office culminated when search warrants were executed Friday night at 11 p.m. at 519 N. Esplanade.

Officers found a quarter pound of hydroponic marijuana at the residence. Packaging items, scales and other evidence was collected by police at the residence.

Thomas Tirey Moczygemba, 23, was arrested and charged with delivery of marijuana, a state jail felony offense.

Robert Gonzales III and Jordan Fanning, who also lived at the residence, were arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor offense.

Salas said the charges against Moczygemba may be enhanced to a more severe degree, because the crimes allegedly happened within 1,000 feet of a school.

According to information from the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office, hydroponic marijuana is a strain of hybrid marijuana which has the potency of tetrahydrocannabinol of 10 times the strength of regular marijuana. This particular strain has a street value of up to $6,000 per pound.

“This was a crucial seizure of drugs and arrest for the citizens of Karnes City, because this residence is located less than 1,000 feet from the Karnes City Elementary School which is a drug free zone,” Karnes County Sheriff David Jalufka said.

Jalufka said the case remains under investigation, although all three men have posted bail and have been released from jail. Moczygemba’s bond was set at $25,000 prior to his release.
