Keeping up with the happenings around the Karnes City area seems to be harder to do all the time. Sometimes the telephone rings so much at the chamber office that it really is best to wait until around lunch time to try and follow up on any projects needing to be done. Especially on Mondays, the phone calls seem to come in one after another and messages that were left on the weekend need to be called back to answer any questions left on the recorder.
Yet, the wonderful thing is that most callers and visitors understand that some questions may take awhile to find the best answers to give in return. And as the county continues to have companies coming here with their employees, it is always interesting and certainly never dull around here!
I am pleased to relate to you, our current citizens, that most of these companies and their CEOs are very courteous and understand what an impact they are having on us who have been around for a long time. So, with my columns I want to let them know in return how much we appreciate their patience, their politeness, and the potential they bring to all of us while they are here. Certainly it is a new beginning for all of us and holds great promise for years to come. As one of our Board Members, Randy Witte, stated recently while discussing the theme for the upcoming Lonesome Dove Parade, the “Eagle-Ford Shale Oil and Gas Boom,” doesn’t just enhance our future but our children’s and grandchildren’s as well.
When I think back on some of the parades that we’ve had in our community, what could be more exciting than celebrating our situation now and in the times to come? So, let us celebrate, really celebrate, our good fortune now and in the days ahead. Also, remember that we all can help keep our community at its best by meeting the newcomers, whether when we have a ribbon-cutting welcome ceremony, or just letting you know that they are here and what they can do for you by joining with us in our area. And, in the meantime, we will learn what we can do for them to make them welcome as they assimilate into our community.
If you have any questions or just want to come by the chamber office as well, just give us a call or come by. I’m here Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
‘Til next time, Cathy Passmore.
