“We got away with a win tonight,” said Coach Jaime Cano. “We totally lost our focus tonight. We made some inexcusable routine fundamental mistakes and that is unacceptable. These are the things we go over in practice and if we expect to beat good teams we will have to stop our silly miscues. Kingsville Academy is a good team. They are a 1A playoff caliber team and it would not surprise me to see them go deep in the playoffs. We will be getting our focus back and we will correct these mistakes.”
Woodsboro fell behind early as the Pride took a 2-0 first inning lead on two quick infield errors. The Lady Eagles battled back, scoring one run in the first inning, three runs in the second and fourth innings, and one run in the sixth. Woodsboro also stranded 10 base runners during the game.
Melissa Cisneros led the way offensively with 2-hits, 1-run, and 1-stolen base; Samantha Lopez added 2-hits, 2-RBIs, 1-run; Kaitlin McCool 1-hit, 2-runs, 1-stolen base; Chelsea Bluemel 2-hits, 1-run; Lacie Jochetz 1-hit, 1-run, 1-stolen base; Megan Carter 1-double, 2-RBIs; Meagan Niemann 2-hits, 1-run; Valerie Balderamas 1-hit; Malorie Nesloney and Melinda Hernandez each scored one run.
