On Thursday night the Kenedy Lions traveled to Falls City to tangle with the state ranked 1A Div2 Beavers in both teams final tune up before the kickoff of the 2012 football season. In the live quarter in would be a pitchers duel as all three touchdowns would come via the air. The Lions would strike first as Rolie Zepeda would connect with Weston Hallmark on a 52 yard strike with Hallmark adding the extra point. The Beavers would answer their first drive with 4:55 on a 44 yard TD strike from Cameron Soto.

The Lions next possession would be halted by penalties and they would have to punt. The Beavers would do the same as they would go 3 and out giving the ball back to the Lions with 26 seconds left to play in the quarter. Zepeda would connect with Dominic Cruz for a 42 yard pass and after the personal foul mark off against the Beavers the ball would rest at the Beavers 9 yard line with 13 seconds. The first attempt would run off 4 seconds and be incomplete but on the next down with time running out Zepeda would heave one into the end zone that Cruz would come down with to give the Lions their second score and with Hallmarks point after a 14-6 final to the quarter.

In the controlled scrimmage Kenedy’s first team offense would score on a 49 yard pass play and then later at the end of the set would fumble at the Beavers 6 yard line. Falls City 1st offense would score also as Soto would sneak it in from 6 inches. The Lions 2nd team offense wasn’t able to sustain a drive in their controlled set. The Beavers would score on a 70 yard run against the Lions 2nd unit.

In JV action neither team would score as both defenses proved to be much stiffer than each other offense as both teams intercepted two passes each.

Lions kickoff the season with the Badgers at home with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 and the JV travels to KC with a 6:00 scheduled game but could be moved up to an earlier time to check with the schools to be certain.
