Students who meet the guidelines will have three “flex days” in January that will allow them to extend their Christmas break to Jan. 2-4.
Students who do not meet the guidelines will attend classes these days and receive extra instruction to help prepare them for spring tests.
Pre-kindergarten and Head Start students are not eligible for “flex days” and must attend school Jan. 2-4.
Guidelines are as follows:
Kindergarten - no more than five absences since the start of school (Aug. 27-Dec. 20) and Texas Primary Reading Inventory developed (passed)
Grades 1-2 - grade average of 75 or above for the first two six weeks in each of the core subject areas; no more than five absences since the start of school; Texas Primary Reading Inventory developed (passed)
Grade 3 - average of 75 or above for the first two six weeks in each of the core subject areas; no more than five absences since the start of school; score of 70 or above on both reading and math benchmark tests in December
Grades 4-6 - grade average of 75 or above for the first two six weeks in each of the core subject areas; no more than five absences since the start of school; score of 70 or above on both reading and math benchmark tests in December; passed STAAR during the spring of 2012 (reading and math)
Grades 7-8 - grade average of 75 or above for the first two six weeks in each of the core subject areas; no more than 5 absences since the start of school; score of 70 or above on both reading and math benchmark tests in December; passed STAAR during the spring of 2012 (reading and math)
Grades 9-12 - grade average of 75 or above for the first two six weeks in each of the core subject areas; no more than five absences since the start of school; score of 70 or above on both reading and math benchmark tests in December; passed STAAR/TAKS during the spring of 2012 (all tests)
