Sheriff Kirby Brumby said the male suspect was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup when he was stopped for a routine traffic violation at approximately 5:15 p.m. The man fled into brush along the highway. He was later found in a tree.
“Within two hours, we had him in custody,” Brumby said. “We got the search dogs out of the prison in Beeville.”
The man faces charges of evading arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
“It was a stolen Avalanche out of the Houston area,” Brumby said. “He was southbound, so it looked like he was going back to pick up another group of illegal immigrants, because the truck looked like it was set up to haul illegal immigrants.”
