As the county stood to possibly lose $650,000 in revenue after Coleto Creek Power filed suit last month to reduce its assessed value by nearly $100 million, the budget, which included cuts of approximately $500,000, was approved 3-2 with Precinct 3 commissioner Jim Kreneck and Precinct 4 commissioner Ted Long voting against.
Kreneck and Long also voted against the tax rate increase to 69.84 cents per $100 of assessed value.
The county and Coleto Creek Power are expected to begin negotiations on Sept. 26.
