The varsity baseball Pettus Eagles were in Kenedy over the weekend and earned the consolation trophy for their play in the tournament.

Through Saturday’s contest, the Eagles stand 2-2 on the young season.

Thursday’s first round play had the Eagles taking on the Poth Pirates. The Poth bats were warmed up and the Pirates captured a five-inning 11-1 win.

Aaron Escamilla took the loss on the mound for Pettus. Escamilla had one hit in three trips to the plate as did Hunter Tomlin. Andrew P. recorded a single in two trips and scored the Eagles’ lone run in the bottom of the fourth.

The second game of the day had the Eagles matching up against the Runge Yellowjackets. It was a slug-fest as the teams combined for 23 runs in five innings of play.

The score was tied at 10-10 going into the top of the fifth. The Yellowjackets plated three runs in the frame to take a 13-10 lead they did not relinquish.

The Eagles put five runs across the plate in both the first and the third innings for their 10 runs. Runge got two in the first, three in the second and then eight runs over the final two innings to get the win.

Hunter Tomlin took the loss on the mound for the Eagles. Escamilla went 2-3 with a couple of singles. Ryan Beck was 2-2 with a double and three RBI’s and two runs. James Constante went 2-2 with one RBI and two runs scored. Andrew P. hit for a double in three trips and knocked in two runs. Ulises slammed a double with one RBI and Tim Gill added a single in two trips to the plate for the Eagles.

Saturday’s bracket play had the Eagles meeting the Skidmore-Tynan JV. Pettus blasted the young Bobcats for 10 first inning runs to pave the way for a 15-9 four-inning victory.

Ryan Beck picked up the win for the Eagles. Robert Hudson provided some of the firepower at the plate with a home run and a single in three trips with two RBI’s and four runs scored. Beck, Constante and Andrew P. all had two hits apiece in the game. Escamilla, Juarez and Taylor Yeoman also collected base hits in the contest.

The win over the S-T JV put the Eagles into the consolation championship against a familiar foe, the Runge boys.

The outcome favored the Eagles this time as the Pettus boys held off the Yellowjackets for a 6-4 victory.

Beck pitched the complete game victory for the Eagles. Hudson and Beck both contributed two hits in the win. Escamilla and Grayson Huskey also collected base hits in the win. Beck and Escamilla were named to the all-tourney team.
