According to information from DPS, at about 5 a.m., Elliot Renshaw, 17, was driving a truck pulling a fully loaded cattle trailer, traveling north on Highway 123 near the Karnes-Wilson county line when he fell asleep, losing control of the vehicle.
The truck and trailer left the roadway and crashed into a tree injuring Renshaw, and causing fatal injuries to Kimberly Jacob, 16, who was a passenger in the truck.
Several cattle that were loaded in the trailer were killed and injured as a result of the accident.
Police say the accident remains under investigation.
