GOLIAD – The Goliad County commissioners met in closed session Monday morning with legal counsel for consultation related to the county's lawsuit with Coleto Creek Power.

Coleto Creek Power generates approximately 40 percent of the county's tax revenue for the county and filed suit in district court in August to lower its assessed value by about $100 million.

The Goliad County Appraisal District originally valued Coleto Creek Power at $355.3 million. The power company contested the county's valuation and the Appraisal Review Board lowered the value of the plant $26.7 million to $328.6 million in June.

Coleto Creek Power had 90 days to contest the ARB's decision and filed the lawsuit on Aug. 16.

Goliad County officials met with Coleto Creek Power representatives last week in preliminary discussions.
