A call was received by the dispatchers at the Live Oak County Criminal Justice Center at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8 from a woman in Oakville who reported a man on the ground by Interstate-37 near the overpass. She said there was a car on the shoulder of the road by the northbound lanes, and all the tires were missing from the car. The man was lying in the grass.

Acadian EMS was dispatched but requested Halo Flight after arriving at the scene. Officers reported that the man had blood on his leg and a gunshot wound to his chest. A rifle was discovered in the vehicle, a 2004 red Ford. It was unclear at the time whether the wound was self-inflicted, an accident or if another person was involved.

The victim was transported by helicopter to a Corpus Christi hospital. His condition is unknown at this time. 

Live Oak County deputies were on the scene as well as a Texas Highway Patrol officer. Three Rivers Fire Department and EMS were also dispatched.
