Billy Joe Williams, 74, of Canyon Lake and formerly of Refugio, died Feb. 17, 2009.
Billy moved to Refugio at the age of two and attended Refugio public schools for 12 years, lettering in track and football.
Williams graduated in 1953 and went on to attend the University of Texas in Austin. His career was in sales and he was employed with Texas Media Distributors at the time of his death. He was active in choir and mission work at Oakwood Baptist Church, New Braunfels. He was a member of the Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited.
He was born Feb. 12, 1935, in Fort Worth to Joe M. and Minnie Maurice Mead Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bobbie Jean (Paul) Abney.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly Williams; one daughter, Melanie O’Quinn of Tyler; two sons Billy Joe Williams, Jr. and Shawn M. Williams of Woodsboro; one brother, Jimmy M. (Linda) Williams of Leakey; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Shawn Clary, Cheri Chapman, Steven and Dan Regouby, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held March 2, at the Oakwood Baptist Church in New Braunfels.
