GOLIAD – An 18-year-old man has been arrested and is being investigated in a case involving the injury of a 9-month-old child.

According to a Goliad County Sheriff's Office news release, Emiliano Israel Zuniga was arrested Wednesday for an outstanding warrant in Three Rivers by GCSO deputies four days after a 9-month-old child was transported by Goliad County EMS to a Victoria hospital with numerous injuries.

The child was later transported to Driscoll Children's Hospital for further treatment. GCSO investigators determined the injuries to be the result of foul play.

A warrant was issued for Zuniga's arrest by Justice of the Peace Steve Kennedy. The bond was set at $200,000.

Zuniga was magistrated in Live Oak County and returned to Goliad County Jail on Wednesday.

When released from the hospital, the child will be placed in foster care by Child Protective Services until the investigation is concluded.
