Senior Trojan duo captures tennis gold at Kingsville meet

A.C. Jones High School’s boys doubles team of Steven Ambriz and Chris Garza went undefeated last weekend to capture first place gold at the Kingsville Invitational.

Ambriz and Garza went 4-0, defeating district rival Moody in the finals. Ambriz and Garza defeated Salazar and Arriaga (Moody) in three sets: 6-7, 6-3, 6-0.

In mixed doubles, Nick Waters and Hannah Stasny went 2-1, before falling to Culp/Reseurez (Bishop) in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-0.

Christian Cuellar, playing singles in the junior varsity division, went 1-1.

Other Trojans participating in the tournament included Jesse Barrera, Megan Burris, Chelsea Moss, Marisela Ibarra, Melody Shane, Tim Shane, Kristina Alvarado, Scott Townsend, Ellen Addison, Kayla Keys and Malika Hennies.

The Trojans will be in Port Aransas at spring break.
