The GW Junior High tennis team traveled to Orange Grove on Saturday for their first bout of competition this season.

In the 7th grade girls’ singles division, Ellen Nance beat out her first opponent, Brumley (Orange Grove) 6-3, but fell to her second opponent, Garcia (Odem) 1-6. 

In 8th grade girls’ doubles, Mary Cansino and Caysi Holt took on Dominguez and Valenta (Orange Grove) and defeated them 6-0, but were knocked out of play by Orange Grove’s Gallardo and Priddy 0-6. Salina Ruiz and Amy Garza lost in a second round match against Orange Grove’s Briones and Cantu 0-6.

In 8th grade girls’ singles, Allison Bryce played well, but was defeated by Orange Grove’s M. Cole 2-6. Taylor Brown was also entered in the girls’ singles division and outplayed Robstown’s M. Tamez 6-1, Odem’s A. Cordova 6-0, but lost in the 3rd round to Bishop’s B. Reyna 2-6. 

All of the girls played very well and we are looking forward to our duel match slated against Refugio on Wednesday, March 11.
