Romeo was born June 17, 1958, in Kenedy, the son of Jose Cano, Sr., and Lena Garza Cano. He attended school in Kenedy. For 15 years, Romeo worked for the Texas Water Development Board in Austin, Romeo then began working with Shale Tank Vacuum Services in Karnes City.
Survivors include his mother, Lena Garza Cano of Kenedy; his wife, Junta Zapata Cano of Kenedy; sons, Romeo Cano, Jr., and Liza Leal, Ernie Cano and Ninfa Sanders, Adam Raul Cano and Roy Cano all of Kenedy; his sisters, Nora Rodriguez and husband Jesse of Kenedy, Elema Cortez and husband Johnny of Kenedy, Nancy Mooney and husband Gerald of Corpus Christi and Dora Saenz and husband Rudy of Kenedy; his brothers, Joe Cano, Sr., and wife Hilaria and Roy Cano and wife Lula, both of Kenedy; and his 5 grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father and his sister, Eva Casarez.
Visitation was held, Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 and a Rosary was recited Tuesday at 7:00 p.m., in the Eckols Funeral Home Chapel, Kenedy. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Kenedy, with Rev. Norbert Herman officiating. Interment followed in the Loma Alta Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Matt Davila, Emilio Zapata, Raul Zapata, Angel Zapata, Ricky Miranda and Jesse Rodriguez. Honorary pallbearers were Marcos Cardona, Martin Sanders, David Prieto, Joe Cano, Jr., Justin Saenz and Elias Martinez.
