Mayor Jay Harvey said Friday that a three-person committee of himself, councilman Buddy Zavesky and city attorney Terry Baiamonte had reviewed 18 applicants and narrowed the list to six finalists. One of the six finalists has since accepted another position.
Among the five finalists is city finance officer Larry Zermeno.
Harvey said the city council will interview the five finalists on Jan. 9 and 10 and a candidate could be hired for the position as soon as late January.
“The end of January and beginning of February is what we’re looking at,” Harvey said. “We had a lot of attractive candidates. Goliad attracts some good candidates. We’re excited that we’ll select a good person for the job.”
The position became vacant when Sereniah Breland resigned in September to accept a similar position in Oklahoma.
