Members can sign up to serve as guides

It is time to sign up for the San Antonio School Tour Guides at the 2013 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

This is an opportunity to lead a group of students to different displays throughout the Stock Show and Rodeo. For seniors, it offers a possibility of earning one of the 12 $1,000 scholarships.

The date is Friday, Feb. 15. Call the Extension Office to register. First come, first served.

Deadline to sign up is Jan. 4. Goliad 4-H will be traveling with FFA members on the same day.

GCFA workdays

The following workdays have been scheduled for the Goliad County Fair Association:

• Jan. 26

• Feb. 2 and 23

• March 2 and 9

4-H scholarships

All 4-H scholarship information and forms are on the Texas 4-H website. There is a training video available on the website and Powerpoint presentation. Scholarships are due in the Extension Office by Jan. 30. They need to be in the district office by Feb. 8.

Rifle project

There will be a make-up rifle project meeting on Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at the JWMHB for those who did not attend the Dec. 18 meeting.

Regular meetings will start on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the JWMHB. Meetings will be every Tuesday.

Consumer project

4-H members interested in participating in the consumer decision-making project need to sign up at the Extension Office. 

The first competition will be held in San Antonio on Feb. 16.  Anyone wanting to participate at the San Antonio contest will need to register at the Extension Office and pay the $10 registration fee. 

Only one junior, intermediate and senior team will be entered.  Practices will begin in January.  For more information, contact Debbie Bego at 645-4514.

Online record books

Record books will be completed online this year. At the end of the year, the books will still be printed out and turned in as usual.

There have been some significant changes this year. The earlier record book are turned in, the easier it will be to complete. The online set up is made to be used year round.

Members can go online to create accounts or log into previous accounts and begin on their own. The website is

Members showing an animal in the 2013 Goliad County Fair must turn in a record book to be eligible to show again in 2014.

Photography contest

Next month’s theme will be “Home for the Holidays.” Deadline for photos will be Monday, Jan. 21. Photos can be turned in at the Extension Office.
