MATHIS — A torrid first half of up and down basketball and hot shooting led the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats to an easy 80-46 victory over the varsity Pirate squad on Tuesday night.

“We got off to a really good start. We came out with a lot of intensity on defense,” said S-T head coach Adam Wollam.

The Bobcats scorched the nets for 27 points in the first eight minutes and then added another 26 markers in the second period. The ’Cats were out front 27-4 after the first period and led 53-23 at the half. There was no question as to which team was in control.

The Bobcats slowed a little in the second half, hitting for 19 points in the third period and only eight in the final stanza after the game was well in hand.

The Pirates tried to make a good showing with 11 points in the third and added 12 more in the fourth, but it wasn’t near enough to make much of a dent in the S-T lead. The final was a lopsided win.

Four Bobcats were in double figures. Zeke Huerta led the way with 22 points. Eric Schumacher hit for 19 and Brandon East recorded 15 points. Johnathan Hernandez added 13 tallies. Erasmo Huerta contributed nine points and Aaron Hughes had two.

The win improves the Bobcats’ overall record to 18-3 and 4-0 in district play. The Bobcats were host to the George West Longhorns on Tuesday night and the Banquete Bulldogs will pay a visit to Skidmore on Friday evening.
