SKIDMORE — A slow start and a slow finish prevented the Lady Cats from getting the victory on Tuesday night as the Banquete Lady Bulldogs left town with a 45-31 victory.

The Lady Cats were held to four points over the first eight minutes, while the Bulldogs recorded 11 points to jump out to a seven-point lead at the end of the first period.

The two squads battled evenly over the next two periods. Banquete added 26 points, while the S-T girls put up 24 tallies. It was a 37-28 Banquete advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

The pace of the game slowed for both teams in the final eight minutes. The Banquete girls effectively used the clock, and the Lady Cats had a hard time getting anything to drop through the net.

S-T managed three fourth quarter points, while the Lady Bulldogs increased their margin of victory by scoring eight.

Mari Martinez led the S-T scoring with 12 points on the night. Courtney Leonard followed with nine markers. Amber Hughlett added five, and Khelsy Corrigan contributed three.

The S-T Lady Cats were in Taft on Friday night for another dog and cat fight against the Lady ’Hounds. On Tuesday evening, the Lady Cats will travel to San Diego to play the Lady Vaqueros.
