PETTUS — The Lady Eagles had a tough but productive weekend of basketball. On Friday, the Pettus varsity were in Runge to tangle with the Lady ’Jackets. Then they had to turn around and host Kenedy on Saturday morning in a rescheduled contest from Tuesday evening.

The best part of the weekend was that the Lady Eagles captured wins in both games.

The Lady Eagles dominated the Runge girls 67-43.

“It started out a little rougher than I would have liked, but the girls kept pushing and working to gain the lead they ended with the win,” said head coach Sunny DeCamp.

Ryan Grayson led the Pettus scoring with a 20 points and worked hard on the boards for eight rebounds. Ashlynn Schauer hit for 11 points, while Destiny Carrillo joined them in double figures with 10. Randi Arrisola and Madi Garza each contributed eight points.

Freshman Hana Kruger came off the bench strong and helped with four points. Tristian Moore, Tori Arrisola and Cierra Buentello each added two.

In Saturday’s rescheduled game with the Leopards, the Pettus girls continued their fine play from Friday night, notching a 60-21 win over Kenedy.

“I was a little concerned about coming in after Friday and playing another important game, but the Lady Eagles hit the floor running and got after it. It was another generous effort on every girl’s part because, again, everyone scored,” DeCamp said.

Moore led the scoring attack for the Lady Eagles with 18 points. Moore also worked hard on the glass with seven rebounds and added two assists to her impressive stat line for the contest. Madi Garza and Tori Arrisola both hit for nine points. Garza came up with three steals, and Arrisola helped clean up on the boards with four caroms.

The Lady Eagles hosted the Yorktown Kittens on Tuesday night and will travel to Falls City on Friday night.
