The Lady Cats started strong and played good pressure defense right from the opening tip. The Freer girls hit for just six points over the first quarter while the Lady Cats played good transition basketball and put up 15 markers.
The Lady Cats added three more points to their margin in the second period, outscoring the Freer girls 16-13 to take a 31-19 lead at the half.
The S-T defense was really stout in the third quarter as the Lady Cats shut down the Freer offense, allowing the Lady Bucks just two points over the eight-minute period. The S-T girls used the turnovers to hit for 12 points build their lead to a comfortable 43-21 advantage entering the final quarter.
The pace usually slows in the final period, but the Lady Cats decided to increase the action and shot very well in the fourth. The home team recorded 18 fourth quarter points while the Lady Bucks hit for 10. The final was never in doubt as the Lady Cats emerged with the victory.
Amber Hughlett worked inside and outside for a game-high 27 points. Naomi Garza followed with 10. Erica Navarez hit for nine while Mari Martinez, Victoria Hernandez and Courtney Leonard all added four. Isabel Jimenez tallied three.
The Lady Cats were in Odem on Tuesday night and will host the Mathis Lady Pirates on Friday evening.
The Bobcats also won against the Freer boys. The final score was a 63-32 win for the Bobcats. No details, stats or comments were available by press time.
