BEEVILLE — Up in the air floating in the clear blue sky on Sunday morning was an enormous image of a rosary made of helium balloons.

The balloons were released by the children of St. James Catholic Church.

The event was the first living rosary of what the church hopes will be many. It will start having a living rosary the first Sunday of every month at 9 a.m.

Each balloon represented a rosary bead; the children stood in the shape of a rosary and, when the time was right, the balloons were released.

Each balloon had a prayer from each of the children for St. Philomena, the patroness and protectress of the living rosary.

According to a church member, the saint is the one who brings believers closer to the Blessed Mother and Jesus Christ.

The balloons said things such as, “Pray for my family and sick people.”

The living rosary was sponsored by L&S Concrete and did not cost the church members anything to partake in it.
