It was close through the first four frames with Odem breaking up a scoreless pitcher’s duel with a single run in the top of the third. The Lady Trojans got that run back in their half of the fourth to tie things at 1-1, heading into the top of the fifth.
That’s when the Owls began to hoot their loudest. Three runs came across the plate for the visitors in the fifth as the Odem girls flew to a 4-1 lead. The Beeville girls got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be it.
The Odem bats were still red hot in the sixth as they plated five more runs to put the game out of reach. Three more Owls crossed the plate in the top of the seventh to make the final a 12-2 victory.
Odem pitching allowed just five Lady Trojan hits while striking out 13 girls over the seven innings.
Alyssa Bates had a double for the Lady Trojans. Andrea Briseno also came up with a hit and knocked in one run. Brianna Gobel also had one hit as did Alexis Martinez and Amanda Gonzales in the loss. Eddika Ortega and Martinez scored the two Beeville runs.
“We played great for about five innings, but then we did not make the plays we should have made on defense. Sophomore Rebecca De Los Santos pitched a good game, but the final score does not reflect that,” said A.C. Jones head coach Jose Flores.
The Beeville girls are competing in the Lady Owls tournament this weekend. The Beeville girls played two games on Thursday against Mathis and Rockport-Fulton. On Friday, the Lady Trojans played Banquete at 5 p.m. and will meet the host Lady Owls again at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Trojans will travel back to Odem on Saturday for a 9:30 a.m. contest with the Ladycats from Calallen to complete their arduous tourney schedule of five games in three days.
The Ingleside Lady Mustangs will visit Beeville on Tuesday night to test the Lady Trojans.
